I wanted to start this blog to help me gather my thoughts and give insights into my journey into Cybersecurity. I will also post about projects I've done, and currently working on. This blog being one of those projects.

I've worked in a completely different industry for almost 12 years, and decided that I wasn't happy where I currently am. Everyone deserves the opportunity to learn and continue to grow. I recently found myself in the position where I didn't feel like I was growing anymore. Just repeating the same day over, and over again like it's groundhog day.

Being lost with no direction is not a position anyone wants to find themselves in. I found myself in that very position until I ran into an opportunity. This opportunity was going back to school and dedicating my life to learning Cybersecurity.

This advertisement kept coming across my feed on Instagram. "Want to change careers? Cybersecurity maybe for you." Over and over again. So I decided to reach out to learn more about this program.

The program is out of CSU Long Beach, and hosted by ThriveDX. The program is designed to teach you everything that a SOC Analyst does in order to get you job ready for after the program. It also involves career coaching, resume writing techniques and more.

During the intro class, I found myself immediately fascinated and really wondering whether I had what it takes to change my career. A lot of people would be fine making good money with good benefits and a set career. Those things were not giving me the fulfillment like I thought I would have. I specifically remember the turning point.

I asked my instructor to have a sit down with me, so I could ask the hard questions and cut the bullshit. He's a straight shooter and will give me the answers I seek. I had one simple question for him at that time. "Is this bullshit? Or is this something I should pursue?" With a straight face, he said, "No this program is not bullshit. This program will give you everything you need to begin a career in cyber, assuming you put in the work."

So that's what I did. I started putting in the work, and to this point I've grown so much. Cybersecurity is an industry where learning and growing is required. If you don't want to learn or grow, this is not the industry for you. For me, it's provided me the perfect opportunity to do just that. Learn and grow.

Is my journey complete? No, definitely not. Will it ever be complete? I'm not sure. I know one thing, I have a lot to offer in this industry and will work extremely hard to learn as much as I can and grow on a daily basis.

Thank you for reading. I will be posting on here once a week, and look forward to the next one!
